International Equal Pay Day

What can YOU do?

  1. Organize Workshops and Seminars:

    • Host workshops or seminars on gender pay equality in your workplace or community. Invite experts or HR professionals to discuss the importance of equal pay and strategies for achieving it.

  2. Raise Awareness:

    • Use social media to share facts, statistics, and stories related to the gender pay gap. Encourage your followers to share their own experiences using a specific hashtag for the day.

  3. Wear Purple:

    • Purple is often associated with gender equality. Encourage people to wear purple clothing or accessories to show their support for equal pay.

  4. Equal Pay Pledge:

    • Encourage people to sign an equal pay pledge committing to closing the gender pay gap within their organization. This commitment can be publicly announced on International Equal Pay Day.

  5. Equal Pay Awards:

    • Recognize and celebrate organizations that have made significant strides in achieving gender pay equality with Equal Pay Awards. This can motivate other companies to follow suit.

  6. Salary Transparency:

    • Advocate for salary transparency within your organization. Encourage open discussions about salaries and benefits to ensure that pay disparities are addressed and corrected.

  7. Networking Events:

    • Host networking events for women in your industry to connect, share experiences, and discuss strategies for negotiating better salaries.

  8. Educational Initiatives:

    • Collaborate with local schools, colleges, or universities to provide educational programs about gender pay disparities. This can include workshops, guest lectures, or essay contests.

  9. Lobby for Policy Change:

    • Engage with local and national policymakers to advocate for policies that promote equal pay, such as pay equity legislation and family-friendly workplace policies.

  10. Fundraising for Gender Equality Organizations:

    • Support organizations that work towards gender equality and closing the pay gap by organizing fundraising events or making donations.

  11. Equal Pay Bake Sale:

    • Host a bake sale where the prices of the treats are based on the gender pay gap. For example, women might pay less than men for the same item to highlight the disparity.

  12. Film Screenings:

    • Host screenings of documentaries or films related to gender pay inequality and initiate discussions afterward to raise awareness and foster dialogue.

  13. Mentorship Programs:

    • Establish mentorship programs within your organization to help women advance in their careers and negotiate for equal pay.

  14. Collaborate with Others:

    • Join forces with local women's organizations, gender equality groups, or other relevant entities to amplify your efforts and reach a wider audience.

  15. Take Action:

    • Encourage people to take concrete actions, such as negotiating for fair pay, reporting pay discrimination, or supporting organizations that champion gender equality.

Remember that the goal of celebrating International Equal Pay Day is to not only raise awareness but also to drive action and change. Every effort, no matter how small, contributes to the broader movement toward gender pay equality.
